What is Physical Activity?

Physical activity is any body movement that causes you to increase the amount of energy you use. Some examples include walking, dancing, gardening, hiking, or carrying groceries.

What is Recommended?

150-300 minutes a week of moderate-intensity physical activity has been found to result in health benefits.

Helpful hint: Moderate intensity means that you can talk, but not sing during the activity!

What are the Benefits?

Benefits of Physical Activity include the following:

  • Improved physical function
  • Lowered risk of falls
  • Weight control
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Improved bone health

Physical and Occupational Therapists can provide advice on appropriate types of activity, activity progression, and injury prevention.
